Helping business owners with mental health issues, Start Small but Dream Big
Welcome to Start Small – Dream Big, the blog for small business owners with big ambitions who face the additional challenges of dealing with mental health issues!
Whether you’re starting out, expanding your small business, or making a million, this blog is for you.
Who am I?
My name is Emma, and I love small businesses and what they can become. I grew up in a family business and have spent most of my career either working for or running small businesses. I’ve worked in different industries and that has given me a broad, rounded view of what it takes to grow a business, and the things that they have in common, whatever sector the business might be in.
As someone with personal experience of mental health problems, I know the additional challenges that entrepreneurs with mental health issues face. While it may seem counter-intuitive that someone struggling with their mental health would choose to take on the responsibilities of self-employment, it actually suits many who find that traditional employment simply doesn’t work for them.
Who is this blog for?
This blog is for anyone working for themselves, or who want to work for themselves. Unless you happen to have inherited wealth, all businesses start small. The successful ones grow. It’s not easy though. Setting out on your own is scary. I know that. Running a business takes commitment, hard work, and real passion. It can be challenging and pressured, but also massively rewarding – both personally and financially.
Whatever type of business you own, you are likely to encounter the same problems as other small businesses. You’re likely to make the same mistakes too as you learn, develop, and grow in confidence. This blog aims to help you deal with those problems, and to prevent you making some of the mistakes that I – and many other business owners – have made, within a supportive community.
Dreaming big together!
This blog aims to be about more than just me sharing information and knowledge. I want it to be about you sharing your experiences, advice, and mistakes so that we can all learn together. Shared knowledge is power!
So, once more, thank you for joining me. Here’s to a rewarding and profitable journey together.
